Tropical Mango Sorbet

What you can by in the store, just a whole lot cheaper and healthier. I had 2 really good sorbet recipes, which each had a downside, and morphed it into this refreshing recipe. Perfect for summer and all year round!

From Something Sweet

Ingredients

  • 4 cups mangoes (see note)

  • 1 cup sugar and

  • pinch of salt dissolved in

  • 1 cup of water

  • 2 tablespoons lime or lemon juice

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, pour in 1 cup sugar, a pinch of salt and 1 cup of water.

  2. Turn the fire to medium-high, and stir the mixture constantly until it looks like clear water (about a minute)

  3. Coarsely chop 2 mangoes (I have only tried it with frozen, but this should work) or use 4 cups of frozen mangoes, thawed.

  4. Pour mangoes, sugar water, and lime or lemon juice in a blender or a food processor fitted with the "S" blade

Turn into sorbet

  1. If you have an ice cream maker, then freeze following it's directions. If not:

  2. Line a baking sheet with foil, spread the mango puree on baking sheet, put in freezer for about an hour (when its partially frozen)

  3. Blend it until smooth, put it back on the baking sheet and freeze it

  4. Repeat the processes of blending and freezing twice more for a total of 3 times.

  5. Freeze in an airtight container until ready to serve

Notes:

  • You can replace 2 cups of mangoes for 2 cups of peaches (4 cups fruit total)

  • The process of making it without an ice cream maker is way easier than it sounds-I prepped the whole recipe, and started blending and freezing later in the day when I had time.

  • Add in whatever else you want! Try putting in strawberries, oranges, or apples and let us know how it turned out!

  •  1/2 cup milk

  •  1/8 teaspoon cinnamon (or a generous dash)

  •  3 tablespoons maple syrup (I used lite)
